"Go Gray in May" A Walk to End Brain Cancer
My name is Mackenzie Templer, and I am a high school senior at North Medford High School in Medford, Oregon. Seniors have two main objectives preceding graduation. First, “senior projects” (community service/event) and secondly, to graduate! I am partnering with the National Brain Tumor Society to raise money and awareness to help find a cure for brain cancer.
On April 17th of 2016, while celebrating my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary, my grandfather was rushed to the hospital after showing symptoms of a stroke. It was to our great shock my grandpa, Ric Olney 70, had been diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiform brain tumor. This took us all by complete surprise. My strong, humorous, and loving grandpa passed away within only nine weeks from his diagnosis.
Despite the short amount of time we had left with him, I am forever grateful for it. Before my grandpa passed, I was able to tell him how he had inspired my senior project idea; raising awareness to find a cure for brain cancer. He was at a loss for words, and through his tears and tight hand holding, I knew he felt honored.
Would you please join me on May 6, 2017, at the North Medford High School track, 1900 N Keene Way, Medford, OR, for the Go Gray in May Walk to End Brain Cancer fundraiser benefiting the National Brain Tumor Society. Please help me achieve my fundraising goal of $10,000!
